a quick uk trip

I’ve gotta say, coming back from two back to back adventures over the Summer and straight back to work really took its toll. I’d been back three weeks and needed a quick getaway but knew I wouldn’t make it out of the country so planned a last minute weekend road trip! I didn’t really mind where I went, just wanted to get away for the weekend and enjoy some alone time. I don’t know about anyone else but because of how much I actually enjoy spending time alone, sometimes, coming back to reality and being surrounded by people everyday can really take its toll quite quickly.. space please!

I booked a hotel on the Friday morning and headed off after work to Liverpool. I’ve been to Liverpool before and really enjoyed it, but definitely didn’t have enough time to see and do everything that I wanted. I sat in the car for about seven hours (whattt) and arrived around midnight to my hotel so made myself a cuppa (am I really only 26?) and put a film on to settle down for the eve.

Early up and first stop was coffee (important) and a walk to Royal Albert Dock, this is one of my fave parts of Liverpool to walk around as it’s a bit quirky and quite cool at the same time. It’s just got a nice vibe to it! I headed to the Tate Liverpool as last time I came to Liverpool I didn’t actually go in! As everyone knows, I love artwork. I could spend forever walking around art galleries, particularly modern and comtemporary art so I was right in my element having a wander around the gallery for an hour or so. I’d definitely recommend it. It’s free to go in the main exhibitions and you can pay an add-on to see some of the more ‘special’ temporary galleries, which sometimes is really worth it.

From here I went to the Maritime Museum just because again, it’s free to walk around and is actually quite interesting! I will literally do anything and everything to explore and learn so was more than happy to spend some time walking around. I started to walk back towards my the town to get to the other side of the main centre and walked past some of the shopping centre (of course) and I found some cool new Vans and a qicked winter coat, both on offer so I couldn’t really say no!

I had a wander through the city centre and found a really cool jerk restaurant to stop for some lunch which was insane before heading off to my last stop of the day. Red Brick Market and Baltic Market. I heard there was some really cool street art around here as well as some really wicked vintage items so it was gonna be right up my street! I didn’t pick up a lot but did find some cute little jewelery and a proper cool cardigan which I grabbed. I took in all of the street art which was totally my vibe and wandered around for a good hour or so looking at all the insane pieces, I’ve only put three of them up on my blog but there was honestly so many incredible designs that I managed to see!

After a day of exploring Liverpool, I realised I needed to find somewhere to sleep for the night, so got online and had a look to see where I could start driving to that was kind of on the way back to Kent but still new and explorable. I found a hotel just outside of Bath so headed back to the car and started driving. I arrived at around 11pm so got my head down to have another day of exploring!

My day exploring in Bath was really different to Liverpool, mainly because it is a really different type of city! I still really enjoyed exploring as I hadn’t been here for years and years. Of course, first up was coffee (who doesn’t know this by now) followed by a walk up to the Royal Crescent (which literally looked like a scene out of Mary Poppins) and around the surrounding areas. I, of course, had to visit the Roman Baths whilst in Bath and let me tell you, I actually enjoyed it far more than I thought I would I’m not gonna lie! I really enjoyed wandering around with my little audio tour and stopping to take in the sights and just people watch as well as learning some of the history. I probably spent a bit longer than planned here but I thought it was worth it. from here I walked down to the River Avon and along for a little bit before coming across a little independent Italian restaurant where I decided to grab some dinner.

I had a really nice day wandering around and exploring and as the day drew in, knew I needed to jump in the car and finish the journey back to Kent! I had a really wholesome weekend and really enjoyed just being by myself doing my favourite thing, exploring. Catch you on my next trip x
