I wasn’t there in a split second, in fact, it was probably about a 5 hour journey from Zagreb to Split. It was well worth it though. The bus station was opposite the boat terminals to the island off the coast of Split, as well as cruise ships dock, and the main plaza of Split, so getting off the boat and smelling the salty sea breezed let me know that I was ready to be near the beach and in the water. I spent a bit of time in the main town before finding my hostel, I had a bit of a moment (I’m not normally one to flap when I’m away), but I phoned my mum in tears saying I wanted to come home. Not because of anything on my adventure but I think because I was still feeling really overwhelmed with what was happening before I left back home. About a week before I left for Croatia, I accepted a new job offer and handed in my notice to my current employer and I think I got really overwhelmed that having two weeks off was really not the right timing and that I felt I had so much to do and was just not doing it whilst away. Anyway. I soon pulled myself together, jumped on a bus to my hostel, sorted myself out and headed back to the main town to grab some dinner and a well earned alcoholic beverage.
Day 2. Beach Day. At last. I had been waiting to finally hit the golden white sands of Split for a while, when doing my research before, I was reading that split was known for it’s rocky waters but also sandy beaches and I was very excited, and well ready, to stick a towel down on the sand and chill out with a book. I stayed at the beach for the majority of the day, so today doesn’t really have much more to it other than I really enjoyed hanging out, listening to some music, having a read and going for the occasional swim in the sea.

Split Day 3 was boat trip day and I was so excited! I began the day by getting the boat to Trogir, where I had the chance to explore this village, grab a coffee (of course!) and get myself ready for the day ahead. We got onto another boat in Trogir which took us out to the Blue Lagoon where we could jump off the boat, go snorkelling (most incredible experience!), swimming and exploring the land. Although, what I didn’t know was that it was absolutely riddled with sea urchins! I start to talk into the water and quickly tried to get back out with fear that my whole foot was get stung, so I headed back to the boat and continued with jumping in off the side into the water to avoid (the safe way of course). We also had lunch on the boat which was freshly cooked fish, rice and salad. Yum. After we finished at the Blue Lagoon, we jumped back on the boat and headed to the island of Šolta. Again, a stunning island with the most breathtaking scenery. Šolta is a small fishing village, so wasn’t overly inhabited and made for a lovely, quiet and peaceful destination to round off the day. When we got back to the Port of Split, I realised I had burnt my head whilst being out on the boat all day, and clearly hadn’t worn enough sun cream because I was beginning to turn a nice shade of lobster.

Day 4. Zip Lining. Today was the day I had been waiting for! I booked to go zip lining in Croatia so long before I went, it was one of the things that were a must do for me. I got a bus to a town called Omiš, about an hour or so out of Split to go zip lining with a well known organisation out there, and it was truly one of the most amazing days ever in terms of experiences. We did 9 zips in total, beginning at the top of the mountains in Omiš and working our way back down to (almost) ground level again. I am so glad I did this, it really helped me overcome my bump in the road a few days before and made me realise why I take myself away on my own, to have time to recoup, regain energy, explore and help find myself each time. The views were sensationally stunning and I could’ve explored all day.

Day 5. My final day in Split. At this point, I genuinely cannot believe how fast time is going and that I’m onto my final destination in the morning. It’s been a wild time so far. Today was super chilled for me. I spent it on land, mostly, and exploring what the Old Town had to offer. Again, fascinated by the buildings and architecture. I spent hours wandering, occasionally stopping for ice cream or coffee, and just really immersing myself in the culture. I grabbed some dinner in the evening and spent my final night watching the sunset by the sea, with some ice cream and having the most peaceful time, before heading back to my hostel and packing for my next, and final stop, Dubrovnik. See ya there!
