Hygge: a quality of cosiness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being (regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture).

Day 3 and I wasn’t getting out of bed early, I felt a little worse for wear after my pub crawl the night before but didn’t want to stop my time exploring so I headed out to do some light activities to get me going, of course first stopping for coffee. I headed to Glyptoteket and I was so excited. The image above was the main auditorium / atrium area and it was like an indoor rainforest and completely stunning. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I walked in, I just wanted to sit and and look at it forever (and hope that I might be able to create something remotely similar in my bedroom when I returned home.. I’ll keep dreaming). Glyptoteket was like a museum and had loads of different areas to explore, from Egyptians and Mummies, to Ancient Greek, Modern Art and more. Again, my other side of me that is less quirky and more geeky was having the time of my life reading about and looking at all these amazing different things. I’m so glad I find a way to tell myself to go and explore these places that might to naturally appeal to me because there is always something I find so incredibly humbling by being a part of these experiences.

On from Glyptoteket I headed up town to City Hall Square and had a wander around here and grabbed some dinner before quickly diverting in the complete opposite direction the check out The Little Mermaid Statue (a little underwhelming), before heading back to my hostel, again looking at some of the incredible architecture, street art and sculptures / statues around just in admiration. I really do love having the opportunity to be able to travel and explore the world and different cultures, it makes me realise how much is out there and how lucky and fortunate I am to be able to do it, and also to feel comfortable doing it alone so I can tailor these experiences to exactly what I want.
My final day adventuring in Copenhagen had arrived (far too quickly), and for my final day, I headed to Christianshvan and Christiania for the day before I had to head back to the airport for my flight home. These were only about a 20minute walk from my hostel so after checking out, I left my bags in a locker there and started walking. it was glorious weather so I was loving the fact that I could put my sunnies on, put my headphones in and really just enter my own world of exploration. I checked out the Church of our Saviour (image below) and also climbed to the top of the staircase (an entire workout), but the views from the top were unreal.

It was super nice to explore the outskirts of the city centre, including Christiania which is a Freetown, I read before going to Copenhagen that photos weren’t recommended whilst there so I kept my phone away and just explored some of the incredible street art on offer. The locals were nice enough but I’m pretty sure they knew who the tourists were and kept their eyes out. Anyway, before I knew it, it was time to go back and grab my bag before heading back to the airport, signalling the end of my first post-lockdown adventure.

I made it back to airport and onto my (delayed) flight home, I’m already planning my next adventure, so until next time, smile and stay in touch. Mads xxx
