I’m so excited! Finally it’s time to get the airport vibes flowing after what seems like forever without. I could NOT be more buzzed! Finally Covid has disappeared enough to be able to book an actual adventure, not in the UK. It has been nice over the last year or so to be able to get out and explore some different parts of the country but I am so ready to be exploring new countries, new cultures, and trying new things. My first country had to be Germany. I booked Berlin for April 2020 which got cancelled due to rona (shared in an earlier post), so here we are, Berlin round two, in April 2022! From Berlin I am then travelling onto Copenhagen and again, super excited.
I have such a long list for exploring in Berlin, it was long when I planned the first time round but it has since got longer and longer and I need to be a proper prepped planner to see and do everything I want to. I didn’t land in Berlin until around 23:00 so I didn’t have any exploring time on my first day, but rather just a chance to try and work out their transport system to get myself from the airport to my hostel, and get some shut eye before a busy few days. The travel system was so confusing at first, I asked so many people how to get to the city centre and people all said different things and I was giving up hope, but I eventually spoke to someone who said I needed to go down another level to the trains where I could purchase a ticket and make my way onto the platform. From here, my maps knew where I was going, it told me where to get off and change and then walked me right to my accommodation which was perfect. I eventually got there at around 01:00 and I was so ready to sleep, so I unpacked, made a loose plan for the morning and hit the pillow.

My first morning in Berlin was greeted with sunshine and I was lucky that my hostel had a coffee shop attached to it which was perfect for me to go and grab my morning fix before getting ready to adventure out. I wanted to try and find my way around in the daylight and have a general explore day today so I got ready and headed out to the area surrounding my hostel, Rosenthaler Platz. I then headed into more of the main city area towards Brandenburg Gate, this was stunning to see. I wanted to head up this way as this is where one of the tourist offices were situated and I wanted to pick up mu Berlin WelcomeCard, which I recommend to anyone travelling here as it allowed me free entry to loads of attractions as well as free transport for the duration of my stay!
I continued exploring the city for the day, and had a wander towards Berliner Dom, Museum Island and then Alexanderplatz. The architecture here is nothing short of astounding. I could have spent hours admiring the different buildings that towered around me. I will say it again and again and again. I absolutely love it here.i spent hours just wandering around and taking in the area that surrounded me. I decided to get one of the apps where I could book out an electric scooter for a period of time so I could continue exploring and although it was super fun, I can definitely confirm that I am less clumsy with both feet firmly on the ground.

In the late afternoon I then headed to the Berlin Wall Memorial which was about a ten minute walk from my hostel. This was a humbling place to visit, the Window of Remembrance was almost harrowing to see and what stood before me was nothing short of incredible. I spent some time here reading up about all the different parts that were in the outside collection and took the time to check out some of the graffiti everywhere, which made me even more excited to head to the East Side Gallery tomorrow (I am so looking forward to that!). After a very full day of exploration is was definitely time for some dinner, so before long, I headed to search for some of the best German Donner Kebab, not the rubbish you see in England, but the real deal.
